Kappa Cycling Team Update

May 30, 2003 – Sandra Walter continues to dominate the Mountain Bike circuit! On May 25 she rode her Marin Mt Vision Pro away from the rest of Ontario's top racers to win and Ontario Cup Mountain Bike race in Kelso. Walter is presently in Ontario, between stops on the Canada Cup circuit. She was please with her result in Kelso, especially since she went into it feeling a bit tired after a hard week of training. She'll rest up this week in preparation for the Canada Cup #2 this weekend in Hardwood Hills, just north of Toronto.

On the west coast Lisa Sweeney and Emily Sandwith competed in the Victoria Cycling Festival, May 24-25. The big event of the weekend was Sunday's Bastion Square criterium, raced in front of thousands of spectators in downtown Victoria. After sweeping the top two positions at this race in 2002 there were a lot of eyes on Team Kappa this time out. Sweeney rode aggressively, always at the front, but her strong finishes in past editions of this race made her a marked woman. In the end a couple of riders would get away, but she finished strong in 4th place. Not far back, the top junior racer in the pro women's field was once again Sandwith in 8th place.
