May 26, 2011 (Canmore, AB) – The Kananaskiker MTB stage race is ready to open the season of mountain bike races at the Canmore Nordic Centre for 2011 on June 4-5. The trails are “fresh from a winter’s restoration” – grippy with that layer of pine straw.
The Kananaskiker is a 3-stage omnium format mtb stage race that features a stage I – XC that starts on Main St. Canmore and goes up to the Nordic Centre for completion, dirt crit’s for stage II, and finishes with stage III – an up hill ITT on the “famous” Spray Rd.
Our race will have some unique features: a “mountain top” finish for the xc, no lapping through the main stadium of the Nordic Centre, an unusually high percentage of single track for the xc (approx. 87% if you don’t count the road up from town), a Pancake Supper on Saturday hosted by the Calgary Stampede “Batter Boys”, and a moto lead and sweaper.
