September 5, 2006 (Montreal, Que.) – The Montreal daily newspaper Journal de Montréal, known for its strong emphasis on sports, has announced that it is launching a bursary for young athletes. The bursary is designed to help athletes aged 17 to 24 years-old to study at a post-secondary institution during the current academic year and to continue their sports careers.
Candidates are requested to submit a short biography to the newspaper from now until March 31, 2007, together with a performance evaluation signed by their school principal or team coach. The newspaper will begin to publish profiles of some applicants beginning November 5.
All athletes who are written about in the newspaper will receive a small cheque or sporting equipment valued at $500 and become eligible for a $10,000 Bourse jeune athlète du Journal de Montréal (bursary) that will be awarded in April, 2007.
The contest is open to many different sporting disciplines including cycling. For the full story click here.
