December 7, 2003 – Jose-Maria Jimenez, one of Spain's most promising riders at one point, died  unexpectedly on Saturday, December 6, 2003, at age 32 of an apparent heart attack. Jiminez had been  fighting depression since 2002 and had to retire from cycling as a result of it.  Jiminez won the Climber's jersey at the Tour of Spain on several occasions and  placed in the top-ten of the Tour de France as well.
