March 17, 2006 – According to an AFP report eleven people implicated in the now infamous doping case of former pro cyclist Johan Museeuw, will be reviewed by a correctional tribunal.
Among the eleven cases to be sent to the tribunal are those of veterinarian José Landuyt and soigneur Herman Versele, both of whom were at the centre of the affair for having provided illegal doping products to several pro cyclists.
Considered one of the most popular and successful cyclists of the 1990’s , Johan Museeuw was caught last year after failing blood tests which later revealed the presence of Aranesp, EPO and Dexomethasone, three illegal drugs on the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) banned substances list.
Aside from Museeuw, Versele and Landuyt, eight other Belgians are facing justice, including six former pros, among them Mario De Clercq, Jo Planckaert and Chris Peers.
The group will be able to appeal the decision of the tribunal (which will be made by the Counsel Chamber of Courtrai), however only on the basis of improper juridical procedure, added the report.
