Young Olympian Jasmin Glaesser delivered an impressive 5th place in today’s stage, retaining the Best Young Rider jersey. The Sprint Jersey passed hands from Swiss National TT Champ Patricia Schwager, who won yesterday’s stage, to Stephens. Stephens leads the GC by 20 seconds.
Andrea Dvorak represented Team TIBCO in an early breakaway that lasted the majority of the race. In the final kilometers of the race, the break had shattered and just one rider remained off the front. Team TIBCO took the reigns and in team time trial fashion, closed the gap and caught the lone rider.
With just 3 kilometers remaining, there was a hard counter attack by a Colavita rider. Kiesanowski took the opportunity to bridge across with Stephens on her wheel. The two drove it home and with 1.5 kilometers to go, Stephens put in a hard attack, soloing in for the win. Three-time Olympian Kiesanowski came in just behind to clinch 2nd place. “It was a windy, hot road race here in Arkansas today,” said Kiesanowski. “It made for a tough, strung out final few kilometers.”
The National Racing Calendar event closes out tomorrow with the 50-minute Stage 4 criterium.
