August 31, 2013 – Working as part of the Sport Team, this energetic sport professional will build the relationships, develop the strategy and implement the programming necessary to build the strongest coaches and sport leaders in our province. The Manager of Coaching and Leadership will be responsible for the effective delivery and promotion of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP) throughout BC. This includes leading the professional training and development of Learning Facilitators (LF), and acting as the key contact for coach advocacy initiatives and issues.

Position: Manager of Coaching and Leadership Development
Job Description:
The Manager of Coaching and Leadership will understand and follow the Canadian Sport for Life (CS4L) program model and will work directly with provincial sport organizations, multi-sport organizations and other sport hubs in BC to facilitate the on-going development of resources and professional development opportunities.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
COACHING EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT
• Manages an effective NCCP delivery system in BC through coordination with MSOs, PSOs, sport hubs and other key partners (e.g. Aboriginal Sports, Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council)
• Oversees the delivery, training and assessment of an effective Learning Facilitator (LF) training program
• Leads the planning of professional development events in BC (e.g. BC Coaches Week, LF Conference)
• Represents BC on the Provincial/Territorial Coaches Representatives Group (PTCR) and maintains a positive relationship with the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC)
• Works cooperatively with BC sport hubs to promote community coach development in implementing CS4L strategies to increase consistency and collaboration
• Directs the BC Games and Canada Games Women in Coaching Program and the Aboriginal Coach Apprentice Program
• Guides the on-going development and use of the on-line coach evaluation tool for coaches and PSOs
• Partners with schools to deliver the NCCP program in schools across BC
•Works closely with the National Coaching Institute (NCI) and other educational institutions in the development of coaching degrees and educational programming
SECTOR LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT
• Leads the development of building coach and leadership capacity within and outside of the sport sector
• Cultivates valuable cross-sector partnerships that can enhance the quality of sport opportunities for BC
• Creates and manages a Mentorship Program applicable to all key partner groups (e.g. athletes, coaches, administrators, volunteers)
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• A passion to take bold action and deliver on ViaSport’s vision
• An extensive sport technical background, including experience from grassroots to high-performance levels
• Strong working knowledge of the BC sport system and its components
• Strong familiarity with the Canadian Sport for Life framework and with the “new” National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
An equivalent combination of the following education and experience will be considered:
• Post secondary degree in sport or recreation (business administration, event management, sports administration, recreation management, etc.) or a related field and three to six years of related work experience
• Experience working with local, provincial and/or national sport organizations
• Facilitation experience in a multi-sport or sport-specific environment
SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE
• Ability to promote and thrive in a team and project-oriented environment
• Ability to research, analyze and summarize data
• Ability to prioritize initiatives while managing expectations of multiple stakeholders
• Ability to collaboratively forge and steward partnerships
• Intermediate to advanced skills using a variety of computerized software packages, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Outlook
