Job Opportunity – MEC Product Manager: Bicycles – New Position

What you’ll be doing:
– Planning the merchandise strategy and assortment for the bicycle and bicycle parts lines
– Planning the financial budget for the department in line with the organizational plans
– Ensuring product development strategy, briefing and process is effective in meeting department plans
– Negotiating prices, terms, and conditions
– Communicating with suppliers and relevant MEC departments so that pricing, shipping, and ETAs and quality are met
– Working with the Inventory Analyst to ensure inventory management meets departmental plans
– Disseminating product information to the retail system
– Providing products and information to the Communications and Marketing department for catalogue production
– Ensuring effective communication with all head office departments and stores
– Representing MEC as an ambassador to the cycling vendors and community
– Upholding MEC’s commitment to our ethical sourcing practices and policies

What you need to do it well:
– Active passion for bicycles and cycling
– Completion of post-secondary education
– Minimum 10 years experience in bicycle development and engineering, planning and purchasing and component sourcing
– Involvement in the cycling community; strong relationships with bicycle suppliers
– Strong knowledge of the bicycle market and the features, benefits and pricing required by the various segments
– Energetic, self starter
– Creative thinker
– Strong analytical ability
– Effective planning skills
– Strong decision making, negotiating and problem solving skills
– Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills. French communication skills considered an asset.
– Strong organisational and time management skills
– Computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, NT)
– Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
