March 10, 2011 (Calgary, AB) – The Canadian Sport Centre Calgary is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Director, Youth Development. An exciting opportunity exists to join the CSCC’s leadership team as it solidifies plans to expand into the new high performance and public training hub to be opened at Canada Olympic Park in February 2012. This position will have the opportunity to create a broad youth athletic development curriculum that will significantly impact the growth of the Canadian sport system.

The CSCC will be establishing a future hub at Canada Olympic Park that will be one of the most unique athletic environments in the world. Job Responsibilities:
– Strategically design and implement a youth athletic development curriculum aligned to the Canadian Sport For Life’s Long-Term Athlete Development model
– Work with a Steering Committee to develop a vision and systematic approach to enhancing youth athletic development
– Work with CSCC sport service professionals to create program outlines
– Work with WinSport Canada, CSCC service professionals and Fitness Equipment retailers on equipment layout and design
– Liaise with CSCC partners and sporting bodies to establish joint programming initiatives to support the development of youth and encourage an active lifestyle
– Develop guidelines for access to facilities and programs
– Interview and hire department staff
– Direct, liaise, schedule and work with a team of part-time, full-time and contract staff
– Develop and administer the youth programming budget
– Establish policies to ensure appropriate duty of care for all youth programs
– Work with marketing team to effectively market and communicate new programs to schools, public and sport clubs/associations
– Participate in the CSCC’s planning process for operation of the new hub at COP
– Assist and support sport organizations with talent identification and recruitment of youth athletic ability and the design of subsequent training programs
– Research and establish a bursary program to support youth with athletic ability that are not able to afford to participate in sport

Requirements:
– Bachelor and/or Masters degree in Education, Sport Administration or related field
– 10-15+ years experience in developing curriculums and/or youth athletic programming
– Vision for enhancing youth athletic development and proven ability to act on that vision
– Familiarity with the Canadian Sport For Life’s Long-Term Athlete Development model
– Strong understanding of the Canadian high performance sport system
– High degree of administrative capabilities and strong computer skills
– Previous experience directing a Physical Education program or working in a multi-sport environment is an asset
– Certified teacher or instructor is an asset

– Proven ability to plan, organize and execute a curriculum or athletic programs
– Ability to develop strong working relationships with external partners and associations
– Strong communication skills, works well in a team environment and ability to relate to the big picture
– A passion for sport and developing a systematic approach to youth athletic development is an asset

Salary will commensurate with experience.

Scope of Position:
Plans and directs the corporate operations of the Canadian Sport Centre Calgary. This includes formulating corporate policies, preparing annual budgets and forecasts, and overseeing the corporation’s human resources activities.

Responsibilities:
Operations & Administration
– Develops through consultations with others CSCC’s corporate processes and policies
– Develops and implements required business systems for CSCC’s operations
– Oversees the preparation and submission of all partner reporting requirements and contract compliancy
– Oversees the efficient operation of the CSCC offices

Finance
– Prepares annual budgets for the CSCC in consultation with CSCC staff and the Board
– Ensures the production of monthly financial reports are completed and presented to the Board and staff
– Develops and coordinates CSCC’s financial management processes
– Investment Administration
– Manage Annual Audit

Human Resources
– Oversees the CSCC Human Resources operations

Planning
– Assist in the development of the CSCC Strategic and Operational plans

Other
– Directs various projects as assigned by the Board and CEO

Qualifications
– Education – Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Business Administration
– Working towards or completion of a professional accounting designation (CA, CMA, CGA)
– Over ten years experience working at a senior level in a financial capacity preferably in sport
– Background in human relations is required
– Strong computer skills and knowledge of the MS Office Suite is required
– Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) is an asset
– Bilingualism is an asset

Essential Skills
– Plan, organize and direct daily operations and oversee policies and procedures
– Co-ordinate and review projects and programs
– Plan and control budget and expenditures and oversee the analysis of data and information
– Excellent oral communication, work well with others, effective problem solving strategies, job task planning and organizing, critical thinking skills, effective decision making abilities

December 7, 2010 (Calgary, AB) – The Canadian Sport Centre Calgary is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Research and Innovation Manager for the Nordic Consortium. The successful candidate will be aware of and able to assess the current landscape of equipment preparation for Nordic Sports at the elite level. From this assessment the R& I Manager will design, implement & integrate projects that will support Canadian Nordic athletes to attain podium performances at the 2014 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia. This position will build on previous knowledge and lessons learned through 2010 Top Secret initiatives and other research projects. This position requires sport specific knowledge of equipment preparation for elite athletes. The R&I Manager is able to communicate with people in a variety of positions – they can move from the wax room to the Boardroom effectively. They can successfully bring together people, technology and sport and apply their Nordic sport knowledge to advance Canadian athletes to continually sustain podium performances at the highest competition level.

Qualifications:
Education
– Undergraduate degree preferred

Work Experience
– 8 + years’ international Nordic sport specific experience (2 quadrennials)
– Must have in-depth experience with/as wax technician
– Must have experience in project management and leadership
– Experience with budgeting is required (overall and project specific)
– Experience with database (data entry and extraction) is preferred

Technical skills
– Nordic Sport Specific Acumen: Tactical
– Nordic Sport Specific Acumen: Equipment
– Ability to converse at scientific and performance level
– Computer proficient with Excel and Word
– Proficient with database management
– Able to operate/use all equipment in Ski Lab

Work Environment
– Position based in Canmore
– Travel required extensively throughout year
– Flexible work hours with requirement for evening and weekend dependent upon project requirement

– Project Management – Understand all phases of the project life cycle and lead team through all required processes. These include project initiation, planning, execution, transition and closure as well as understanding the controls that are required and how they may impact the project.
– Communication – Able to clearly and appropriately express information in a variety of forms and data and can adapt to audience (equipment technicians, ski manufacturers, coaches, athletes, work team, sport scientists, HP-D, OTP, CSC – Calgary). Actively listens and encourages others to share their ideas and information.
