December 18, 2010 (Edmonton, AB) – The Alberta Bicycle Association (ABA) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Events Coordinator. The deadline for application is January 14, 2011. The ABA is the affiliated Provincial Sport Organization (PSO) of the Canadian Cycling Association (CCA). It operates under the authority of the world governing body of all cycling’s many sports, the Union Cycliste International (International Cycling Union) in Geneva.

The mission of the ABA is to facilitate an introduction to organized cycling and to develop a strong competitive cycling program, while protecting and advocating the rights of cyclists.

Key Responsibilities:
Reporting:
The Events Coordinator will report through the Executive Director, to the President. The Events Coordinator will be located in Calgary and it will be based in a home office environment. This will be a half time position, with weekend and evening work required.

Specific duties will include:
1. Coordinate, with Provincial Chief Commissaire, the scheduling of officials.
2. Serve as Technical Delegate at designated races.
3. Maintain Alberta Cup points standings, and track rider upgrades
4. Assist with CCA/UCI-sanctioned events occurring in Alberta.
5. Coordinate annual Race Organizer’s meeting in conjunction with the Mountain Bike Sport Coordinator
6. Assist in co-ordination and development of Events Calendar
7. Work as a liaison between, and provide support to, organizers, officials, participants, and volunteers
8. Production of Race Organizers guide and other race resources
9. Maintain ABA equipment inventory, and coordinate movement of equipment
10. Assist with ABA Recreation and Transportation oriented events in Alberta as directed
11. Other administrative duties associated with events, including contributions to website and member updates, procurement of insurance certificates, attendance at meetings of the Racing Committee

Qualifications
1. A knowledge and understanding of cycling
2. An affinity with the aims and targets of the Alberta Bicycle Association
3. Understanding delivery of all aspects of a sports event
4. Involvement with a sport and/or a sporting organization
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills
6. Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
7. Willing to travel throughout the province and be able to provide own transportation

May 5, 2006 — The Alberta Bicycle Association is hiring an Executive Director to fill a one year maternity leave.

Position: Executive Director

Reporting: The Executive Director will report through the ABA President to the Board of Directors.

Duties and Responsibilities of this position include:

1. Policy Management
The Executive Director participates in moving the organization towards its mission through policy management. The Executive Director administers policy management by:
– Administering day-to-day operations of the organization
– Directing the implementation of policy
– Preparing procedure statements for board policies
– Assisting the President to coordinate board meetings
– Supporting the Board and standing Committees

2. Program Management
The Executive Director contributes to defining and setting the organization’s rate of progress towards its mission through program management. The Executive Director administers program management by:
– Advising ABA Committees
– Implementing programs and services which reflect the board’s priorities
– Supervising the implementation of the ABA’s programs and services
– Conducting evaluations of programs and services

3. Financial Management
The Executive Director assists the Board and its Committees to maintain continuity through financial management of the organization. The Executive Director administers financial management by:
– Maintaining sound bookkeeping procedures
– Preparing quarterly statements of expenditures and revenues
– Administering the funds of the organization according to the approved budget.
– Advising the VP Administration

4. Personnel Management
The Executive Director assists the board and its committees to maintain the ABA’s continuity through personnel management. The Executive Director administers personnel management by:
– Interpreting board policy decisions to staff
– Hiring, supervising, evaluating and releasing staff
– Training and motivating staff
– Supervising the recruitment, selection, orientation, and training of service volunteers

5. Events Coordination
– The Executive Director attends events on behalf of the Association, working as a liaison between organizers, officials, and participants.
– Coordination of provincial Mountain Bike racing

The Executive Director will work closely with ABA Committees, and other ABA staff, in the execution of his/her duties.

Hours of Work: This is a one year position, starting mid-June 2006. Usual hours of work will be 8:30am-4:30pm weekdays however some weekend and evening work will be required. This position is based in Edmonton, AB.
Remuneration: $2,850-3,450/month depending on previous experience.
