Job Offers – Cycling BC

September 23, 2006 – Cycling British Columbia continues to apply for and receive government funding that support a variety of initiatives. Our most recent success with accessing increased funding from government sources has provided the association with the opportunity to fund several coaching positions with the association. Three of the coaches will be regionally based part time or Full Time Equivalent positions while fourth position is a full time Provincial Head Coach position based out of the Cycling BC office.

The three regional positions will be based in the Kamloops, Victoria and the Fraser Valley and each coach will have two main focuses. Firstly, their primary objective will be to work with the local cycling community to help build strong youth development in their region across all disciplines. Essentially, they will be a regional development officer for affiliated groups and licensed riders an provide a direct link between our association and the riders, teams and clubs in areas outside the Lower Mainland. Due to the very different needs of each affiliated club and team, the work of each regional coach will likely vary from club to club and team to team.

The Regional Coaches will also act as Assistant Coaches for provincial team projects (National Championships, Western Canada Summer Games, Canada Games, etc). Specifically, they will identify and coach athletes capable of achieving success at the National and International level. Importantly, these three coaching position provide Cycling BC with the ability to successfully identify athletes from outside the lower mainland.

The Provincial Head Coach position will play the lead role in the development of High Performance athletes in British Columbia. The development of a positive and effective relationship with clubs and teams that have youth age riders will be a primary responsibility of this position. Initially, this individual will be asked to develop and implement a “High Performance” plan for the 2006/07 season including a range of Provincial Team camps and projects for all disciplines. On an ongoing basis, the Provincial Coach will forge a strong working relationship with coaches, teams, and clubs to develop high performance athletes capable of achieving success at National and International competitions.

I welcome any questions you might have about these new and exciting positions and look forward to making an announcement regarding the successful candidates in October.

Yours sincerely,

Keith Ryan
Chief Executive Officer
