Position: Manager, Education and Community Relations
Job Description:
Manager, Education and Community Relations The COC is seeking t- hire a dynamic and experienced individual for its Vancouver office. Reporting t- the Director, Athlete and Community Relations, the successful candidate will be responsible for overall direction and strategic planning, personnel and program management for the COC’s Education and Youth Outreach programs, Community Relations, liaison with the Vancouver Organizing Committee for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games as well as special projects. This position is a primary interface with many of the COC’s key stakeholders, and as such significant client service experience will be essential.
Core Responsibilities
1. Education and Youth Outreach “” provide leadership in order t- develop, implement and evaluate the COC’s Education and Youth Outreach plan, which includes the Olympic School Program, Olympic Academies and Adopt an Athlete programs. In addition, work closely with the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games Organizing Committee (VANOC) on the development of the 2010 Olympic Education Program. Tasks include: program design, implementation and
evaluation as well as interaction with corporate partners.
2. Community Relations ? provide leadership in the research, strategic planning and implementation of community relations initiatives that will contribute t- the development and maintenance of excellent relations with key stakeholders, including: athletes, coaches, sport community, corporate sector, etc., in order t- promote the Canadian Olympic Foundation, and COC interests in partnership with stakeholders.
3. Liaison “” establish and maintain liaison with VANOC and other COC sectors, including the Olympic Preparation and Games, Communications, Partner Relations and Events Sectors.
4. Special Projects ? research, develop and manage various special projects consistent with the strategic objectives of the Athlete and Community Relations department..
Qualifications and critical skills
– University Diploma with a minimum of 5+ years of related work experience, with supervisory experience an asset;
– Excellent program design, management and evaluation competencies;
– Independent, self-starter. Able t- work proactively with minimal supervision;
– Strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
– Very strong oral and written communication skills (English/French bilingualism preferred);
– Vision, attention t- detail and ability t- handle multiple projects concurrently;
– Ability t- establish and nurture positive work relationships with colleagues and key corporate partners;
– Knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, etc.);
– Background as a high performance athlete or Olympian preferable.

Education and Youth Outreach Plan “” manage the development, production, and implementation of COC’s education and Youth Outreach initiatives, including Canadian Olympic School Program, leadership development programs (Olympic Academies) and Olympic Outreach programs (scholarship programs, etc.) in conjunction with external suppliers and volunteers. In addition, work closely with the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games Organizing Committee (VANOC) on the development of the 2010 Olympic Education Program.
2. Adopt an Athlete Program “” manage the development, promotion and implementation of the Adopt an Athlete Program. This will involve interactions with various schools and athletes t- establish and monitor athlete-school linkages.
3. Community Relations “” contribute t- the research, strategic planning and coordination of National Community Relations activities with COC’s key stakeholders, in order t- promote COC interests in partnership with stakeholders.
4. Events “” Provide support t- COC events (Congress, HOF, golf tournaments, etc.), as needed.
Qualifications and skills
– University Degree in Sport Management, Education or other related field with a minimum of 3-5 years of related work experience as a project/ program manager, preferably in the sport field;
– Strong program design, management and evaluation competencies;
– Strong oral and written communication skills (English/French bilingualism preferred);
– Familiarity with sport networks, youth initiatives, and community programs nationwide;
– Strong interpersonal and leadership skills;
– Self starter and ability t- work effectively within a team concept;
– Vision, attention t- detail and ability t- handle multiple projects concurrently;
– Ability t- build/maintain relationships with colleagues and key stakeholders;
– Knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access, etc.);
– Background as a high performance athlete or Olympian preferable.
