Job Description: Special Olympics Ontario is a province wide organization, which provides sport training and competitive opportunities for athletes who have an intellectual disability. Special Olympics Ontario is looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated individual who is willing to help Special Olympics grow in the Eastern Regions of 7 and 12. The Eastern Area consists of communities such as Belleville, Kingston, Cornwall, Pembroke, Oshawa, Durham, Peterborough, Trenton and Halliburton.
Special Olympics Ontario is seeking an Area Coordinator. The Primary responsibilities include recruiting and team lead with the Eastern Regional volunteer networks, develop outstanding community/corporate partnerships to support Special Olympics programs, competitions and events. The candidate will be a dynamic, task-oriented individual with strong communications and public relations skills, The incumbent must be bilingual, preference will also be given to candidates who have experience working with volunteer committees and knowledge of community service organizations.
Responsibilities:
“¢ Development of community based Special Olympics sport programs and committees
“¢ Active support to volunteer network committees
“¢ Volunteer recruitment, orientation and training
“¢ Public speaking and education
“¢ Special event management including competition planning and development
“¢ Provide leadership and support to communities, ensuring that strategic priorities are met
Qualifications:
“¢ Post-Secondary Education in the field of Sport Management or equivalent work experience/education
“¢ Working knowledge of MS Office programs, including Power Point, Excel, Word and Internet access
“¢ Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks
“¢ Self-starter and ability to work independently out of home based office
“¢ Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, in English and French
“¢ Proven ability to set and achieve goals within a specified timeframe
“¢ High degree of organizational sense, business acumen, professionalism and diplomacy
“¢ Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and occasional weekends
“¢ Traveling in the area will also be required, therefore candidates must have access to a vehicle
