May 8, 2006 – The Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation (KLCFDC) is a non-profit, community based corporation that receives funding from Industry Canada. Our mandate is to promote business, community economic development and job creation in the City of Kawartha Lakes. We look to assist small business and the community through our business advisory and support programs and by promoting self-employment and community partnerships. Presently, we have the following opportunity for a client-focused and results-oriented candidate to serve as a Project Manager for the Celebration of Trails. (12 Month Contract)
The Celebration of Trails is an annual autumn event that will take place in City of Kawartha Lakes and the Counties of Haliburton, Peterborough, Northumberland, Hastings and area communities. The Celebration of Trails (COT) will promote opportunities for local residents to become involved in physical activity on east central Ontario’s trails and it will co-ordinate trail activities/events that will attract visitors to the area in the autumn, a “shoulder season” for most jurisdictions. The COT will embrace existing activities and events happening in the region during the fall season and stimulate the development of new events. A co-ordinated regional approach to program and market development will connect and market the unique trail activities, events and experiences under a regional brand image, theme and marketing plan. This program has been funded in part by the province of Ontario through the “Communities in Action Fund” and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Purpose of the position:
Manage the coordinated implementation of the Celebration of Trails, a regional community initiative in east central Ontario involving trail and festival activities in communities along and in the vicinity of the Central Ontario Loop Trail (COLT), the Trans Canada Trail, the Oak Ridges Trail and Waterfront Trails.
Under the general direction of the General Manager and the Celebration of Trails Management Group, the successful candidate will manage the Celebration of Trails by:
– implementing the 2006 event strategy and business plan;
– overall administration, budget control and management of disbursements;
– engaging existing trail events and stimulating new event development;
– planning and coordinating a marketing and fundraising campaign””including materials;
– planning and coordinating sponsorship programming;
– recruiting and networking with community partners and volunteers;
– providing event development information, assistance and support for participating events;
– preparing and submitting all required report documentation; and
– evaluating 2006 outcomes and implementing plan for the 2007 Celebration of Trails.
We are prepared to be flexible with respect to working schedule and environment, and potentially other aspects of the position, based on the needs, experience and suitability of the candidate.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:
– Strong planning, organizational and project management skills;
– Knowledge and understanding of event planning and development practices.
– Knowledge and demonstrated experience in resource development, e.g.,
fundraising and volunteer recruitment and management;
– Knowledge and proven creativity and ability in marketing and communications;
– Excellent oral and writing skills;
– Good judgment and excellent interpersonal skills;
– Knowledge of and skills in a variety of computer applications, including Microsoft
– Valid MOT driver’s license and ability to travel.
