October 11, 2009 (Edmonton, AB) – The same cold and icy temperatures with a dusting of snow greeted riders for the Jim Horner Cyclocross GP on Sunday with riders contesting the same course as yesterday’s 2009 Cyclocross Nationals. The are lots of super slippery corners and lots of rider were going down on every lap.
In the Master Men B (40-49) there were crashes within the first few hundred meters so group of five got a gap led by Rob Orange and Marc Boudreau – both Ride with Rendall. Norm Thibault (BC) Frontrunners and John Fokkema (BC) Aviawest were in the chase group. More crashes in the bowl on the second half of course meant the lead group was broken up but Orange kept the lead.
Eventually he fell back (may have crashed) and it was Fokkema, Thibault and Barr charging with Fokkema off front but he was caught. All three were together but Thibault and Fokkema dropped Barr on the last lap. Thibault led into last corner then slipped on the ice and Fokkema took win.
It was a repeat podium from Saturday as Peter Mogg (ON) The Hub Race Team/SRS won the Master Men A (30-39) race continuing his winning ways with John Clark (AB) Hardcore Cycling Club in second and Craig Stappler (AB) Deadgoat Racing claiming third.
In Master Men C (50-59) the winner was Ken Germaine (AB) 9th St Cycle Logic over Lance Adamson (AB) Juventus 0:11 in second with Claude Breau (QC) Rio-Tinto/Martin Swiss in third.
Rachael Mirvish (ON) HBCC lead the Master Women for the win over Cindy Koo (AB) Deadgoat Racing taking second with Aly Armstrong (ON) St Catharines Cycling Club in third.
