Jesus Manzano Claims Bribery

November 26, 2006 – According to Associated Press, former Spanish cyclist Jesus Manzano claims that he was recently offered “between 25-30 million old pesetas” (about $265,000 CDN), to keep silent about the ongoing Operacion Puerto.

Manzano, who rode for the Kelme team from 2000 to 2003 and admits to having doped then, claims that the offer came from a lawyer representing Manuel Saiz, the former directeur sportif of the Liberty Seguros team. This information is in an official complaint concerning attempted bribery that was lodged with Spanish authorities on November 14.
