July 23, 2004 — The rumours have been flying about Genevieve Jeanson and her lack of a spot on Canada’s Olympic Cycling Team. According to reports in The Toronto Star and CBC Sports, Manon Jutras will be filling out the third position alongside Lyne Bessette and Sue Palmer-Komar.

But our national governing body of cycling has not made the announcement official. “The Canadian Cycling Association is neither confirming or denying these rumours,” said Sean O’Donnell, CCA High Performance Coordinator, in a brief phone interview today. O’Donnell did confirm that the athletes have been notified about Olympic positions, and so has the Canadian Olympic Committee, but the CCA will not be announcing the Olympic Cycling Team until later this week.

Jeanson has been plagued by doping allegations but, like a true champion, overcame the stress of those allegations to win the Montreal World Cup — the only Canadian to win a road world cup race this year. At the Canadian Nationals, Jeanson failed to impress and finished 11th in the women’s road race.
