May 2, 2007 (Winterberg, Germany) – The Crankworx Festival in Whistler, B.C. prides itself in being “the world’s biggest adventure playground for mountain bikers.” Every year thousands of MTB fans descend on the area to watch the daredevil antics of the world’s most reckless bikers. This year Germany is planning something similar. Europe’s largest freeride Festival, the iXS Dirt Masters, will be held from May 18-20 in Winterberg, Germany.
For three days Germany’s number one bike park will play host to freeriders from across Europe, the new kids on the mountain bike block. Whether it’s jumping, slopestyle or racing, freeriders will latch onto anything that’s fun. The Festival revolves around three top-notch competitions – the iXS German Downhill Cup, a downhill race over rough terrain; the Felt MDC 4-Cross Cup, a particularly suspenseful event, with heats of four bikers racing head to head; and the highlight of the festival, an international “The Cut” Slopestyle contest, where riders will bring all the creativity, courage and style they can muster to a course of jumps and a wide range of other obstacles.
Freeride pros from across Europe will be lining up to take part, but this is not just a competition for the crème de la crème. Amateur riders, too, can get a whiff of the atmosphere surrounding this major-league international competition. All competitions are divided into
both ‘pro’ and ‘hobby’ categories, giving everyone a crack at the action.
The Winterberg Bike Park is located on Kappe Mountain, right next to the bobsled run. Leading manufacturers of bikes and equipment will be presenting their latest products on the paths and spectator areas alongside the ice track. The organisers are promising visitors a unique festival atmosphere, spiced up with great bands and some serious partying. And as if that’s not enough, entry to the festival and all other Winterberg events is free!
