Interior Cross Series #3 Final – Kamloops Cacti Cross

release by Catharine Pendrel

November 1, 2010 (Kamloops, BC) – Fifty-four riders participated in the inaugural Kamloops Cacti Cross, stop 3 on the Interior Cross Shots and Blocks Series presented by Clif. Riders and fans were treated to a beautiful Halloween day, great racing and a fun course and costumes.

In the B race, 11 women took to the start line, 3 under 17 men, and 3 Sr men. The women laid down a hot pace with Monica Nelson taking the lead followed closely the entire race by Yvonne Timewell. Tanille Stickly chased hard for 3rd in the women’s, just behind Chris Orr the men’s winner. Jason Bourgeois took 2nd and Brad Heyman 3rd. Kellen Visnaugh of Revelstoke won the under 17’s by riding through the B field to finish 7th overall, while Harrison Bayman of Kamloops put out some fast laps for 2nd.

In the A race, Interior Cross leader and Joe Dirt for the day, Evan Guthrie, took an early lead and extended it through the BMX track. Ron Ellis chased him in second all day with a battle for third behind him between Matt Hewitt and Dan Macdonald. A mechanical ended Hewitt’s day with 1 lap to go of the 8 lap race. Corey Forrest rode closely for 4th while Kamloopsians, Greg Johnsen, and the heated husband-wife team of Keith Wilson and Catharine Pendrel, duked it out behind them. Wilson’s grin was wide as he crossed the line ahead of Pendrel. Mission accomplished.

After husband-wife duo took each other out in a couple of corners. Jean Ann and Mike Berkenpas rode through the field for Jean Ann to claim 2nd in the women’s race behind Catharine Pendrel. On her heels, Giraffe Sandra Walter and Ryan Newsome completed Local Ride Bike Shop train.

Downhiller Max Bayman won the under 17 A race ahead of local Devon Moonie.
