September 23, 2010 (Las Vegas, Nevada) – Following two days of Dirt Demo, where more than 100 exhibitors braved the dust and sand of Bootleg Canyon in the Nevada desert, Interbike, North America’s largest bicycle trade show, moved indoors. This is the show’s final year in Vegas as Interbike makes a move back to Anaheim, California in 2011 also moving up the show dates to early August. The buzz at the show is full-on in the heart of Sin City and here’s a look at some of the hot new products on display.
Guru
We were blown away by the lightweight Photon from our very own, Canadian-grown Guru. The Photon frame weighs in at an incredible 747grams and is an unparalleled performance machine. It makes use of American-sourced, military grade, HS-40 carbon fibre, and like every Guru, is custom built in-house to individual rider specifications. Much of Guru’s success in custom fit work lies in their development of their DFU (Dynamic Fit Unit), the first computerized robotic assisted bicycle fitting system on the market.
Kinetic by Kurt
The Rock and Roll takes realism and your workout to a whole new level by providing side-to-side motion. The lateral motion helps engage core muscle groups for a total workout, and provides both strength and balance training. The Rock and Roll comes with a 2.8kg flywheel but is also compatible with the optional 8.2kg Pro Flywheel – which provides longer wind-ups during sprint intervals.
NiteRider
NiteRider’s flagship flash comes in the form of their Pro 1400 LED that pumps out 1,400 lumens through two independently housed LEDs and reflectors. One reflector acts as a “spot” and the other a “flood” allowing the rider to manipulate the type of beam pattern desired along with custom manipulation of light output via NiteRider’s D.I.Y Software. Weight is 812g w/quick release battery system; charges in 4.5 hours and runs up to 64 hours!
Skins
Skins was showing off a soon-to-be-released Rain Jacket called the C400, which features DiAPLEX “intelligent fabric” that responds to body temperature When the air outside is cold, the DiAPLEX particles arrange themselves into a solid insulating sheet preventing the transfer of thermal energy from your body to colder surroundings. As the body heats up during exercise, the fabric’s particles respond and rearrange to create millions of tiny openings that allow excess thermal energy and moisture to escape.
Lezyne
Lezyne was displaying an incredibly light set of pumps produced with Full Carbon technology in the handle and barrel. The Carbon Drive 2 comes in a small (170mm / 88g) and medium (216mm/100g) version, offering 90psi inflation. The flex hose, stowed inside the handle, is a reversible Presta/Schrader, and threads on the valve very securely.
Knog
Knog was lighting it up this year with their new Boomer, a USB rechargeable, high-powered, strobe light. The Boomer offers 4 hrs (constant), 36 hrs (strobe) burn times, weighs in at 50g , and booms out 55 lumens (front) and 30 (rear); also comes as a wearable light version with a Clip and Stick mount for 12hrs (constant) or 72hrs (strobe).
