Interbike 2009 – Day 2

by Paul Newitt

September 29, 2009 (Las Vegas, NV) – We hit day two running, well walking relatively fast, with fresh legs, thanks to some impressive new compression socks from Sugoi’s R & R line. Two days into Interbike is usually a challenge on the legs and the back as there were countless companies and products covered on day one. Day two also tends to be one of the busiest at the show and this year was no different. The halls were full of retailers, mechanics, athletes, celebs, and of course, media, poking and prodding through thousands of items.

This year urban is big, in both bikes, accessories, and fashion and we covered a ton of it. Many companies are reporting urban bike and accessory sales as going through the roof! Cyclocross, women’s products, and technical fashions such as compression/recovery clothing, also had a strong presence at the show.

Other surprises, which seem more like “catch up” for Europeans was the continued trend towards electric assisted bikes at the show. From Kona’s newest electric Ute, to the announcement of Sanyo providing electric bikes to North America, it appears the drive towards alternate, electric transportation is finally getting serious here at home. With one day left, we have a Pedalpalooza of products still to check out so stay tuned for more…
