July 5, 2007 – In support of InMotion’s mandate to promote and advocate physical activity for girls and women across Alberta, we are launching our new “Get OUTSIDE Girl” initiative.

The “Get Outside Girl” initiative targets girls ages 10-17 and is focused entirely on getting girls outside and more active while utilizing their outdoor surroundings.

Grants will be awarded in a range up to $2,000.00 to associations or affiliated local clubs and organizations submitting proposals for programs that operate between September 2007 and November 2007. The project must be completed and a final report, including a financial statement submitted to InMotion Network by January 1, 2008.

Program Objectives:

1. To provide girls ages 10-17 with an 8 week program focused on getting them active outside.
2. Provide an opportunity for girls to participate in outdoor activities that they may not have otherwise had exposure to.
3. Educate girls on the benefits of being active outside while utilizing their outdoor surroundings.
4. To facilitate the effective delivery of quality physical activity opportunities for girls in safe, positive environments.

The program delivery agencies will:

– Hire Program Leaders with appropriate credentials (Standard First Aid / Certifications)
– Ensure that the outdoor areas chosen for the activities are as safe as possible
– Ensure that the girls have access to the program regardless of ability, culture or financial status

The program activities for the girls will:

– Allow for a combination of self-directed and program leader directed activities
– Encourage skill development as well as fun
– Provide opportunities for social interaction to encourage cooperation and friendship
– Ensure that girls are given opportunities to express their wants and needs
– Provide leadership opportunities for the girls
– Encourage girls to look at their outdoor environment and the opportunities it holds to be active

Please include a budget, indicating what resources may be required to deliver the program. Deadline for receipt of proposals is July 1, 2007.
