Injured Maja Wloszczowska to Miss 2012 Olympic Games

July 23, 2012 – The unthinkable has taken its toll on Poland’s Olympic hopeful, Maja Wloszczowska, who is suffering from two broken bones and torn tendons in her right foot reports AP, and will not be in London for the 2012 Olympic Games. Wloszczowska, 28, injured her right foot while training in Livigno, Italy before the weekend.  She was a real medal threat winning the 2010 MTB World Championship and coming second at Beijing 2008 behind gold medal winner, Sabine Spitz (Ger).

Reigning Elite Women’s Champ Canada’s Catharine Pendrel, who finished 4th in Beijing, battled with Wloszczowska in Champery, Switerzerland, last year as she out-paced the Polish star for the crown. The two were in a heated battle when Wloszczowska punctured and Pendrel road on to rainbow jersey fame. According to the report “…it will be a miracle if she can compete at all this year.”
