Infineon Raceway Spring and Summer Cycling Series

March 24, 2005 “” Infineon Raceway will open its gates in 2005 for the second consecutive year to cyclists of all ages, this time with an expanded cycling program that features two different series.

The Spring Cycling Series will take place April 7, 14, 21 and 28, while the Summer Cycling Series, which enters its second season in 2005, will return August 4, 11, and 18. Riders will use the same 10-turn, 1.99-mile road course that is used by the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series each year. The series is sponsored by both Infineon Raceway and the Infineon Raceway Cycling Team/Napa Valley Velo.

The events continue Infineon Raceway’s commitment to cycling. The raceway also hosts the Infineon Technologies Cougar Mountain Classic, Sept. 9-11. This event was held in 2004 at Infineon Raceway as the California Outdoor Sports Championships and will feature the best in road circuit and road criterium racing, as well as mountain bike and gravity disciplines (mountain cross and dual slalom). The year’s event will also feature a trail run.

Gates will open at 5 p.m. for each racing date in both the spring and summer series, with registration beginning at 5:30 p.m. There will be one race each week for the A/B classes for the Spring Cycling Series, beginning at 6 p.m. For the Summer Cycling Series, there will be two races, one for the A class at 6 p.m., and the other for the B class at 6:45 p.m. Each race will last approximately 45 minutes.

The top three finishers in each class will receive both cash and contingency prizes.

Cost is $10 per competitor each day, and all riders must have a United States Cycling Federation (UCSF) license to compete. A one-day license is available for purchase at Infineon Raceway on the day of the event.
