July 16, 2004 – Moving the Economy (MTE) is an innovative partnership that works to promote and develop economic opportunities in New Mobility/sustainable transportation. We are seeking an experienced Project Manager for our Integrated Mobility Systems initiative (IMS), a growing national network and consortium exploring smart cards as a tool to integrate and improve transportation choices and other urban services. Duties and Responsibilities:

– Primarily, work with Edmonton Transit to
co-ordinate the development of a proof of concept
using open system specifications and standards
for a multi-application smart card payment
system. Work will be closely coordinated with
financial institutions, consultants, Transport
Canada, and Moving the Economy.
– Manage project consultants on behalf of
Edmonton Transit and the Consortium to ensure
that the deliverables meet partner expectations
– Maintain partnerships through telephone, email,
internet and in-person communications
– Report regularly to Transport Canada on progress and status of budget
– Administer and manage relations with the IMS
Consortium, and the broader IMS network,
including meetings of the project management
group, advisory committee, membership services,
public events, budgets, and communications

Qualifications:
· Excellent grounding in sustainable
transportation/New Mobility issues and initiatives
· Experience in directing the work of consultants
· Experience in working with government departments an asset
· Excellent strategic skills and knowledge
· Excellent communications skills and partnership building experience
· Background in environmental issues an asset
· Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
· Experience in technological innovations, including smart cards an asset
· Experience in transit operations an asset
· Basic technical/computer/website skills

Position: Full time (or possibly part-time),
based primarily in Edmonton with some travel
within Canada required (primarily to Toronto)
Salary: Negotiable
Term: 17 month contract, with possibility of extension based on funding
Start Date: September 2004
Supervised by: Pat Waisman, Director of Business Development, Edmonton Transit
Reports to: Sue Zielinski, Director, Moving the Economy
(and employed by Transportation Options)
