1) CANADIAN NEWS

2006 CANADIAN URBAN HOT SPOT ANNOUNCED

Canada’s largest city was chosen as the site of IMBA’s 2006 Canadian Urban
Hot Spot – a campaign dedicated to creating urban trail access solutions and
inspiring new mountain bike advocates. The Bicycle Trade Association of
Canada (BTAC) will sponsor the yearlong Toronto campaign, with the combined
goals of getting more people out on bikes and promoting its retail members.

JOIN US FOR THE HOT SPOT LAUNCH – FRIDAY MARCH 24, 2006

All Greater Toronto Area mountain bikers are invited to join us Friday March
24, from 7-9 pm, for a campaign kick-off at Sport Swap’s Toronto location.
The evening will begin with short presentations by BTAC and the City of
Toronto, followed by an inspirational slideshow by IMBA Canada’s Mark
Schmidt and Lora Woolner. A complete schedule of Toronto area Hot Spot
events will be announced at this time. Join us for draw prizes,
refreshments, and a fun evening for the whole family!

IMBA SUMMIT/WORLD MTB CONFERENCE OFFERS EARLY BIRD SPECIALS

CONTRIBUTE TO IMBA’S MOUNTAIN BIKE MANAGEMENT BOOK – CANADIAN CONTENT NEEDED

IMBA seeks contributions to our forthcoming book focused on strategies and
techniques for managing mountain biking trails and facilities. Here’s your
chance to share research papers, success stories and other resources with
mountain bikers around the world. We’re looking for model trail management
plans, trail user surveys, partnership agreements, adopt-a-trail agreements,
trail standards, trail maintenance plans, and more. Contact project director

APPLY FOR A 2006 ONTARIO TRAIL IMPROVEMENT GRANT

In 2006, the Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) and the International
Mountain Bicycling Association’s (IMBA) Canadian Office will once again
award cash grants to fund trail creation and enhancement projects across the
province. Three $500 grants are available. Application deadline is June 1,
2006.

NATIONAL PARKS PARTNERSHIP: TRAIL CARE CREW VISITS UNDERWAY

The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews have begun on-the-ground implementation of
IMBA’s formal agreement with the National Park Service. The Crews will be
building relationships at 12 NPS units in 2006, and have already visited Big
Bend National Park (TX), Saguaro National Park (AZ) and Whiskeytown National
Recreation Area (CA).

The National Mountain Bike Patrol program continues to receive accolades from land managers and the press. Recently, the National Park Service applauded the assistance of 100 volunteer mountain bike patrollers who help monitor California’s Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area.
