December 10, 2004 – Every year, Santa and his reindeer make the trek down from their workshop at the North Pole to deliver their gifts to children of all ages. This year, Sugoi and CityTV are going to return the favour with a Relay Run covering the 4800 km distance from Vancouver to the North Pole with the goal of raising at least $25,000 for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society.

“Last year’s Sea To Santa run helped us raise $10,000 for the Food Bank and it was such a success that this year, we decided to go bigger and better,” said David Hollands of Sugoi.

The staff of Sugoi started running, walking and jogging on November 25th, logging miles toward the goal, and preparing for the final Push to Pole on December 20-21. During that final 24 hours, Sugoi and CityTV will be inviting Vancouver runners to join in completing this challenge and will be selling half-hour spots on the treadmills for a $40 donation to the Food Bank. Each runner will receive a free custom Sugoi technical t-shirt valued at $50.

In addition, the public can come down during the event to drop off non-perishable food items and donations. Given the Food Bank’s economies and ability to buy food at wholesale prices, every dollar donated is turned into $3 worth of food. That means that each $40 donation is turned into at least $120 worth of groceries which go directly to Vancouverites through a number of Food Bank-run programs.

“In the end, the event serves two purposes-we raise money for the Food Bank which has long been one of our designated charities, and we also encourage our staff to get involved in the healthy, active lifestyle which we promote through our technical apparel.”
