Health Net Hopes To Do Damage At Toona

July 22, 2004 – The Health Net Pro Cycling Team Presented by Maxxis will send a team made up of strong all-arounders, as suits the terrain for the International Tour de ‘Toona in Pennsylvania, July 26- August 1.

The race will mark the return to action for U.S. Olympian Jason McCartney. “I’m really looking forward to getting back to racing conditions,” he said recently. McCartney will be joined by Mike Sayers, who recently finished third overall at the mountainous Cascade Classic, and as of July 21, had won three races of the International Superweek Series in Wisconsin – in only four days of racing.

The seven-stage race is run over the hilly terrain of central Pennsylvania. It starts with a short individual time trial, and includes four road and one circuit stage before the final-day criterium in downtown Altoona.

“Any number of our guys can compete for the overall there this year,” Health Net Presented by Maxxis directeur sportif Jeff Corbett noted. “McCartney will be looking to build on his form for Athens, and Scott Moninger has been our most consistent GC guy all year. And Sayers is just on great form right now. We’ll see who’s going well and how the race plays out.” The squad for the seven-day race will be comprised of:

– Brice Jones
– Mike Jones
– John Lieswyn
– Jason McCartney
– Scott Moninger
– Danny Pate
– Mike Sayer
