October 11, 2003 – The three breakaway riders, Pena, Vestoel, and Morrenhout have been joined by a Portguse rider. The pack is being led by Francesco Casagrande (ITA) and the rest of the Italian team, who are chasing hard. There are a few groups forming on the climb but are quickly swooped up on the descent. The pace is definitely taking its toll on the riders and the sun is shining.
