October 7, 2003 (Hamilton, ON) – German National Time Trial Champion Bianca Knopfle, of Donaueschingen, stole the show today, earning herself a world championship title.

The young rider has only raced four or five time trials in her life. She also competes as a mountain biker and recently finished ninth at the MTB Worlds in Lugano, Switzerland. During the press conference after the race Knopfle mentioned that she only started training specifically for time trials three weeks ago!

Denmark's Loes Markerink and Iris Slappendel were second and third respectively. Canadians Audrey Lemieux and Emilie Roy finished in 16th and 18th place respectively.

The Espoirs Men's 30.8km time trial is just getting started and Canada has two riders entered. Chris Issac and Dominique Rollin will be representing Canada this afternoon and will ride two laps of the 15.4km loop of the time trial course.
