October 9, 2003 – Canada's 22-year-old sensation, Genevieve Jeanson, has had a stellar season with wins at the Montreal World Cup, Redlands, Sea Otter, and the Canadian National Road Race, among others. This week Jeanson hopes to use the hilly roads of Hamilton to her advantage and score a medal on Saturday's elite women's road race. Pedal had a chance to catch up with the Queen from Lachine after yesterday's time trial, where she placed fifth. “I must admit it is very different to be in Canada for the Worlds. It feels so different to be in my own country, and see so many familiar faces around, whether they are spectators or officials. But I am very excited for the race on Saturday.”

Although the course is hilly, Jeanson does not think it is just for climbers, “I think the course lends itself to a variety of riders. I think an all-round rider will be the best, but of course one must ride well up both climbs.” Jeanson has been preparing for the last month in Arizona, which went very well. “I was training in Arizona, which has become a bit of a second home for me. I was doing a lot of very good training rides with my friend Corky, and the weather was always good. I went to Arizona because in Montreal in September the weather is unpredictable; it could be a few degrees above zero and raining!” Jeanson joins her five other teammates on Saturday for the road race which is slated to begin at 12:45pm….
