Guy Morin Passes Away

January 27, 2007 (Montreal, QC) — Guy Morin, former president of the Canadian Cycling Association (1967-1974), and one of Canada’s top riders from yesteryear passed away on Thursday at the age of 77. His cycling career from 1947 to 1960 was marked by some 60 road and track victories, as well as eight Canadian titles. In 1989, Morin was the first recipient of the CCA’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

“This is a great loss for Quebec cycling,” declared André Michaud, president of the FQSC.

Noted cycling journalist, Pierre Foglia, wrote in 2004 that, “when I arrived in North America at the age of 21, I knew absolutely nothing about cycling. It was Guy Morin who inspired my passion for the sport.”

Morin is survived by his son and daughter, Guy and Nancy. At press time, details have yet to be announced for the funeral.
