Gravel Cup Wheelers Lanark-Liege Unofficial National Gravel Championships June 1 – Canada’s 1st

May 24, 2019 (Lanark, Ont.) – Wheelers Lanark-Liege, Canada’s 1st “unofficial” National Gravel Championship will be taking place on Saturday June 1st. Located in the picturesque highlands of Lanark County this event will showcase the areas spectacular single lane treed gravel roads like the signature “forest access road”, Ranger Camp and North Shore Drive along clear blue Dalhousie Lake.

The venue, Wheelers Pancake House and Sugar Bush is family friendly with lots to do. Learn about maple syrup from Vernon Wheeler, explore the grounds and hiking trails, see the animals, visit the Maple Syrup museum that sets the Guiness Book of World Records for most maple syrup artifacts and have some pancakes and sausages from the menu.

The event is open to anyone from the adventurer to the racer, licensed and unlicensed. Ride or race the longer “competitive” course or choose the shorter “sport” course. There’ll be an aid station equipped with muffins and chocolate peanut butter balls, course support from the Ottawa Valley ATV Club, plenty of parking and facilities, timing for all from Running GoatTiming, swag from Blade Carbon Wheels and draw prizes from Via Cibo Kanata.

Also, photos taken by Robert Roaldi will be available for free download post event. Bike Centric will be there will Gravel Cup paraphernalia and other items for sale made from their passion for cycling. Our registered charity partner is the Shelley Gautier Para-Sport Foundation founded by multiple World Champion para-cyclist Shelley Gautier and is dedicated to creating more opportunities for para-sport activities. Volunteers get a free pancake meal and their name in for a draw for a gravel frame from Euro-Sports the presenting sponsor at year end.

Come and watch some of Canada’s best talent including former Canadian Road Champion, Bruno Langlois (Vélo Cartel), Derrick St. John (Trek Hyperthreads), Osmond Bakker (nine2fivepro), Natasha Elliot (Trek Hyperthreads) and Jennifer Stephenson battle it out for the National Champions Jersey as you eat your pancakes and maple syrup. Due to an unfortunate accident Matteo Dal-Cin (Rally Cycling) broke his collar bone and won’t be able to attend.

The finish will be on a 2km section through the Wheelers Sugar Bush finishing right at the old sugar shack in full view of the Pancake House. There’ll be podium ceremonies and the opportunity for finishing selfies with your friends behind the giant Gravel Cup backdrop.

The Eastern Canada Gravel Cup was designed as an inclusive, fun, safe event for those that love to challenge themselves on beautiful gravel roads. We’ve passionately put our heart and soul into these events and we hope to see you there June 1st at Wheelers.
