GranFondo Canada Announces Enhancements to RBC GranFondo Whistler Route

release by GranFondo Canada

July 03, 2012 (Vancouver, BC) – GranFondo Canada announces significant enhancements to the 122km route for the RBC GranFondo Whistler. In its third year, this mass participation cycling event continues to evolve, enabling riders to travel along the spectacular Sea to Sky Highway from Vancouver to Whistler, now in an even more unencumbered manner.

“We have worked extensively to further enhance the rider experience. These important modifications will appeal to new registrants, while providing a fresh experience for veteran participants of the event” said Kevin Thomson, co-founder GranFondo Canada. “No other event in North America provides such a unique experience.”

Changes through West Vancouver and Upper Levels Highway
As in the past, the event will start with a neutralized roll-out to the bottom of Taylor Way using a dedicated lane for cyclists. At Taylor Way, riders will notice the first of the major changes.

New for this year, riders will have a “completely car-free” roadway as they make their way up Taylor Way to the Upper Levels Highway.

Riders will then be directed onto the eastbound Taylor Way off ramp into the “completely car-free” eastbound lanes of the Upper Levels Trans-Canada Highway.

Riders will be able to cycle in these car-free and cone-free lanes until well past Lions Bay, giving 34 kilometers for riders to get into their own pace and rhythm.

The RBC GranFondo Whistler takes place Saturday, September 8th and there are still spots available for this world class event. For more information and to register, visit HERE.

Cycling against traffic on the highway is never recommended. But if it is on your bucket list, join in on this epic adventure!
