July 02, 2019 (Montréal, QC) – In September 2010, the UCI WorldTour circuit came to the Americas for the first time, as the world’s best road cyclists competed in the Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal (GPCQM). With the events celebrating their tenth anniversary this year, the organizers are pleased to announce that, with the agreement of the International Cycling Union and the Professional Cycling Council, two extra laps will be added to the Montréal city circuit, bringing the total race distance of 219.6 km.
“The addition of these two laps provides the 18 WorldTeams with an extra challenge in terms of endurance and resistance, something that the sport’s very best riders welcome,” says GPCQM President Serge Arsenault. “This is fantastic news for both the fans and the athletes striving for excellence, as the features of the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal course make it an event suited to the strongest riders, with no downtime in which to recover. So we can clearly expect a spectacular race scenario,” he added.
