March 1st, 2004 – Unfortunately the organizers of  the 2003 edition of the GP Feminin have just declined to take the responsibilty for the 2004 edition. This late decision will make alternative solutions difficult to find, however, the Saguenay-Lac St Jean group of organizers cannot cancel the GP Feminin because the event has been a CCA property since 1997.

Now, the CCA must explore new organizers who are willing to come forward to maintain this important event for the development of women's cycling in Canada. The former editions have never attracted a top level international field except in 2003 because it was organized one week before the Hamilton Road Worlds.

But, the category of the event speaks for itself, it's a  2.9.2 event, not a World Cup, not a 2.9.1. This low category serves the purpose of the event: to develop women cycling in Canada, not to attract top international Teams. We need this kind of event to give an objective to the provincial and national level of women athletes. This is why this event was initiated in 1997. It will be a shame to see it disappear.

For years, it was  organized on a low budget scale in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, and we  believe it's possible to repeat this format. If there is a group of potential  volunteers to take over the organization, please contact the CCA Competition  Coordinator: competition@canadian-cycling.com to assess the possibility of salvaging the event.
