October 16, 2009 (Fossano, Italy) – Philippe Gilbert (Bel) Silence-Lotto won the 184km Gran Piemonte UCI HC race from Novi Ligure to Fassano, Italy yesterday. It came down to a four-up sprint with Daniel Moreno Fernandez (Spa) Caisse d’Epargne, Francesco Gavazzi (Ita) Lampre-N.G.C, and Luca Paolini (Ita) Acqua & Sapone-Caffe Mokambo, who placed second through fourth, respectively. Canada’s Christian Meier (Can) Garmin-Slipstream and Michael Barry (Can) Team Columbia-HTC were also in the peloton, finishing 52nd and 58th.
