December 22, 2011 (Saint-Lambert, QC) – Yesterday evening, Les Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal (GPCQM), 2010 edition, received the Maurice Award as International Event of the Year at the 39th annual Gala Sports Québec. The GPCQM organizing committee accepts the award with a great deal of pride, and takes this opportunity to confirm that the 3rd editions of the races will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012, in Québec City and Sunday, September 9, 2012, in Montréal.
The award also provides a chance to underline the success of the 2011 Grands Prix Cyclistes, which attracted more than 275,000 spectators along the two courses. The races also generated direct and indirect economic benefits of $56 million for Québec, and were televised in more than 75 countries. The GPCQM committee thanks its public-sector partners, the Government of Canada, the Government of Québec, the City of Québec and the City of Montréal, as well as its private-sector partners, Desjardins, Kia, Air Transat, Évasion and Via Rail.
Les Grands Prix Cyclistes de Québec et de Montréal invite you to be part of the action in 2012! A new race will be added to the roster of events: the first-ever Challenge Sprint to be held in Montréal, on Saturday, September 8. Building on the success of the past two years, the Challenge Sprint will also return to Québec City, on Thursday, September 6, 2012.
