May 18, 2014 – Pieter Weening (Ned) Orica-GreenEdge pulled off a daring move with about 20km to go after a 14-rider strong early break was reeled in.

Davide Malacarne (Ita) Team Europcar went with him but it wasn’t until GC threat Domenico Pozzovivo (Ita) AG2R La Mondiale got into the action that the peloton really took notice.

Weening sat behind Malacarne until the final 250m and easily outfoxed the Italian for the victory as Pozzovivo took 3rd and moved up from 10th to 4th overall while Cadel Evans (Aus) BMC Racing Team was in the finishing pack in 7th and remains in pink – the riders enjoy their second rest day tomorrow.
