May 13, 2004 – Aussie Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) took his first win of the Giro ahead of Gerolsteiner's Olaf Pollack and Vini's Marco Zanotti. Good news for Cipo fans: the Domina Vacanze's sprinter made his way to the start line and finished the stage despite being covered in bandages from yesterday's crash in the sprint. May 12, 2003 – Although a veritable improvement from 100th, second still must seem just as far behind today for World Champion Mario Cipollini (Domina Vacanze-Elitron) as he was bested by his compatriot, and pink jersey wearer, Alessandro Petacchi (Fassa Bortolo).  Despite a near-perfect leadout by his zebra-striped Domina Vacanze-Elitron team, Cipo could not hold off Petacchi, who is displaying his best form ever. Petacchi leads the race, and although there are many fast sprints to the line remaining could it be that the mighty Cipo is finally slowing down?
