May 10, 2011 (Livorno, Italy) – In a sombre and moving tribute to Wouter Weylandt (Bel) Leopard Trek, who met a tragic death after a crash on Stage 3, today’s Stage 4 at the Giro from Genova Quarto dei Mille to Livorno, 216km, was neutralized beginning with a moment of silence.
The teams took turns at the front riding at a steady pace with riders wearing black arm bands in honour of Weylandt. Near the end the Leopard-Trek team rode at the front along with Weylandt’s close friend Tyler Farrar (Garmin-Cervelo) to the finish.
