Giro D’Italia – Stage 11

May 20, 2004 – A 228 km day from Porto Sant’Elpidio to the late Marco
Pantani’s hometown of Cesena, had the Giro peleton bearing witness to a
race revelation. Emanuele Sella a 23 year old neo-pro riding for Ceramiche
Panaria-Margres stole the show, bridging up to and attacking a nine-man
break some 45 kilometers from the line.

Thousands of fans lined the route today donning yellow T-shirts to
commemorate the death of Marco Pantani. Perhaps inspired by the Italian
champion, Senna rode an inspirational race over many difficult climbs near
the finish to win the stage. The ride moved Senna up to tenth overall only
1:25 back of race leader Damiano Cungo who still leads teammate Simoni
(Saeco) by ten seconds, with Pellizotti in third, 28 seconds back.

Giro D’Italia Stage 11

May 21, 2003 – With the final sprint just a few hundred metres after a sharp corner, many riders are happy to have finished the stage in one piece. Aussi Robbie McEwen (Lotto-Domo) took the stage over former pink jersey winner Alessandro Petacchi (Fassa Bortolo) and Crescenzo D'amore (Tenax).
