Giro del Trentino Stage 2 Report, Results – David Boily 36th

report by Team SpiderTech p/b C10
[Date] (Italy) – Wednesday featured Day two of the four-day Giro del Trentino in Italy,  a race in which Team SpiderTech powered by C10 is taking part, and it was a day for the climbers to shine as the course featured three climbs in the second half of the race disputed at over 1000m above sea level, in altitude.

The day started off dry and 9 degrees. Riders would face two categorized climbs in the 149-kilometre stage – the first one coming at the 118-km mark followed immediately by a second one a few kilometres later. The race finish was also at the end of a 9-km climb.

And while it started off dry, the rain started to fall on the first categorized climb of the day. As the climb ascended through 1,000 meters on the way to 1,449 meters, the temperatures quickly dropped from 12 degrees to 3 degrees. The rain turned to snow and the riders were faced with bitter cold conditions for the remainder of the race.

Knowing that the break would go early, riders from Team SpiderTech made strong efforts to be active in the break. Attack after attack went on and after 12 kilometres, and the break was finally established with Caleb Fairly and Ryan Anderson both just missing the move. The break of four was eventually caught before the descent to the final climb.

David Boily of Québec, QC was the best placed finisher for them team, taking the 36th position, just missing the split on the rain soaked decent to the final climb. Boily commented: “This was an epic day on the bike. We had rain, snow, super hilly course and it was super hard. I feel better and better each day and hope to be in the first group tomorrow.”

The breaks are expected to go again early tomorrow in Stage 3, therefore the team’s goal will be to get someone in that first move, and also for Boily to be in good position when the race hits the finishing climb which starts at the 156-km mark for a length of eight kilometres, reaching 1,000 meters above sea level. The finish will feature a short, 2.5-km descent.
