Giant Launches the Trinity Advanced SL to the Public

release by Giant Canada

July 10, 2009 (Montpellier, France) – Giant is proud to announce that it will move into full production of its previously team-only prototype TT/Tri bicycle. The 2010 Giant Trinity Advanced SL, dubbed, “The World’s Fastest Bike,” was unveiled to the cycling media prior to the start of stage 4 of the 2009 Tour de France.

With over 12 months of field, wind tunnel and laboratory stress testing under its wheels, the fifth-generation prototype is officially ready to move into the production stage as the Trinity Advanced SL. Extensive testing of the prototype has progressed even better than expected with a 2008 World Time Trial gold medal, a decisive Giro d’ Italia win and a commanding Ironman Germany victory.

The production version incorporates the direct input of Team Rabobank as well as Ironman triathlete Timo Bracht. Subtle refinements from the previous-generation models have improved performance with all-internally routed cables and a proprietary under-chainstay/reverse-fork mounted brakeset.

“This whole project started with two guiding principles,” said Pierre-Henri Medas, Giant’s Global Road Category Manager. “One, the bike would be built solely for function, without concern about design aesthetics. And two, it had to be approved by the UCI. These two principles served the end goal of providing professional riders the tools to win the most competitive races in the world.”

Besides the frame shape, one of the bike’s most distinctive features is the first-of-its kind, full composite, handlebar-and-stem unit dubbed, ‘AeroDrive.’ This patent pending (U.S. Publication No. 20080036170A1) structure provides unprecedented front-end stiffness while allowing the rider to achieve a highly aerodynamic position. It also complies with stricter enforcement of technical limitations that have been introduced by the UCI.

Most impressive to note is that the Rabobank squad rides the identical machine that will be made available to the public in early September of this year. Models and prices will vary by country with the Shimano Di2 equipped Trinity Advanced SL 0 taking the premier position at around $14,000 USD.
