Giant Bicycles 6 Days of Burnaby – Day 4 Cancelled

January 6, 2006 — Yesterday evening’s racing at the Giant Bicycles 6 Days of Burnaby was cancelled due to the pressure of snow on the velodrome’s roof. Organizers were concerned that if the velodrome’s doors were constantly opening and closing there was additional risk of the bubble collapsing.

Prior to the cancellation two Keirin qualifiers were run in which Cam MacKinnon, Matt Barlee, Matt Chater, Felix Haspel all advanced, and one women’s Keirin final heat was won by Monique Sullivan.

Racing should resume on Saturday and according to an email by Andy George, President of the Burnaby Velodrome, received at 3 am EST, “I have not received any info on the roof situation, which I hope is good news. The Velodrome should be open by 9 am (on Saturday) but please check your email before you leave for the track. I will keep you updated when I get the information.”
