German Authorities Take Ullrich\’s DNA

September 15, 2006 — As reported by Associated Press, German authorities took DNA samples from Jan Ullrich this week during a search at his home in Switzerland according to an article published yesterday in Sueddeutsche Zeitung, Germany’s largest daily newspaper.

The DNA samples will be compared with blood samples found by Spanish police at the Madrid clinic of Dr Eufemiano Fuentes as part of Operacion Puerto.

Nine cyclists, including Ullrich, Ivan Basso and Francisco Mancebo were not allowed to participate at the 2006 Tour de France because of their implication with Operacion Puerto. Ullrich won the Tour in 1997.

It is unclear how the DNA samples were taken as Ullrich is on his honeymoon, after recently marrying Sara Stainhauser, and was apparently not at his residence during the investigation according to the report.
