Geriatric Camp IV

January 22, 2007 (Ottawa, Ont.) – Capital Riders Organization and the Ottawa Skate Park Association are offering an introductory skate park riding course. The course starts January 31 for five consecutive Wednesdays from 9:00-11:00 p.m. and costs $125.

There is no real minimum age restriction, but it is intended for mature people who are at a beginner/intermediate skill level. The idea is that people can sign up without worrying that they will be intimidated or embarrassed by young shredders. So if you’re under, say, 21 you will need to go through an extensive interview/screening program before being awarded a spot… and will be repeatedly called such things as kiddo, sporto, munchkin….

Each 2-hour session will include some specific skill instruction (about an hour) and the rest will be a free session where we will do our best to help where asked. We will also be assigning homework….

Show up on any two wheels you choose to bring but we will be teaching from a BMX perspective. The plan is to have fun and hopefully learn a thing or two.

Skills:

The main focus is to teach the basic skills required to get around the park safely, have fun, and progress. Some of the things we will work on:

– Safety/SkatePark Etiquette
– Riding Position
– Bunny Hops
– Roll Ins
– Fly Outs
– Carving/Airing Quarter Pipes
– Jumping
– Roll backs
– Flip-whips

The Ottawa Skatepark (OSP) at 1395 Triole St.
