April 19, 2018 (Toronto, Ont.) – Gerard Vroomen of OPEN Cycles and Cervelo fame recently held court in Toronto at an intimate engagement at The 11 Inc. as 75-100 guests enjoyed a cocktail hour followed by the official meet and greet.
Vroomen, one of the men behind Cervelo and the Cervelo Test Team, talked about his new ventures at 3T and OPEN Cycles, the state of the sport and the business of cycling, also taking questions from the floor. Regarding the new digital age entering the sport Vroomen had this to say. “I’m all for e-bikes if they get people out of their car or off the couch and on to a bike. But just for the sake of bombing up trails that’s not progress. Living in Amsterdam where bikes are everywhere, the trend is e-bikes and they’re great for commuting or keeping up with your friends on weekend rides,” he commented. In the crowd was non-other than Phil White, the other man behind Cervelo, as the dynamic duo launched the brand from humble beginnings in 1995 and took the world by storm paving the way for Canadian brands to make their mark on the international road scene – check out our interview with them that evening coming soon. Heath Cockburn, owner of The 11 Inc., was Cervelo’s first national sales manager and currently is the top Canadian OPEN Cycles dealer making it a walk down memory lane for attendees.
