January 8, 2008 – Northwave North America announces that George Hincapie has signed a two year contract to ride on Northwave bike shoes. The 34 year old two-time USPRO Champion is one of the world’s most accomplished cyclists. Best known for his part in the record breaking (8) victories of the Tour de France with multiple stage wins, Northwave is proud to have George as a rider for their high performance cycling shoes.
The four time Olympian was born in Queens, NY, but currently resides in Greenville, South Carolina. Between South Carolina, Belgium, and Spain, he devotes the majority of his time training for Spring Classics, and the Tour de France. He also takes active part with his self started businesses, Hincapie Sportswear and Pla d’Adet Development, with his brother and business partner, Rich Hincapie.
George has been a professional cyclist for the last 14 years and is a major part of Team High Road Sports (formerly T-Mobile). His other years racing pro were spent on Motorola from 1992-1996, and the US Postal Team from 1997-2004 with former teammate Lance Armstrong. From 2005-2007, he raced with the Discovery Channel Team, where he reigned in more victories, including a win in the 15th stage of the Tour de France in 2005.
Hard at work, Hincapie has already started training in Northwave shoes. When asked about his thoughts on the shoe’s performance, Rich comments, “George is excited about the new partnership. He has trained in the shoes and loves the weight, fit, and comfort.” Hincapie plans on training and racing on the Aeralite SBS shoe, which is the Northwave top performing shoe.
Meshing well with the fit, he also relates well with the Northwave philosophy of great sportsmanship. “George is a proven leader who has shown that not only can he lead, but he can be the most reliable lieutenant in the peloton. It’s a good example in sport as well as life,” quotes manager Rich Hincapie. For those reasons coupled with his amazing athleticism, we are proud to announce the George Hincapie as a new addition to the Northwave family.
