May 14, 2004 – Team Maxxis' Geoff Kabush is busy preparing in Spain for the first World Cup. Kabush has had a great start to his season, which has included a win at the first NORBA. Pedal caught with with GK to see what he has to say.
Pedal: How is the new team Maxxis working out?
Kabush: Things are great with my new team; really great support staff, cool teammates, and a bunch of great sponsors that are really psyched to be supporting the program. It makes it easy for me to concentrate on riding my bike fast.
Pedal: In terms of racing, what's next for you?
Kabush: I am over in Spain for a couple of weeks getting ready for the first World Cup in Madrid. I will probably do the Catalunyan Championships this weekend. The results for me have been great this year, but as far as I am concerned Madrid is the start of the season for me. I haven't proven anything so far.
Pedal: Let's talk bikes. Which one have you been racing mostly on?
Kabush: I am really happy to be riding for Dave Turner. His company may have a lot of bikes that are more gravity oriented, but he is very into the cross country side of things as well. I have a good hardtail but I am more excited about the new dualie, the Nitrous, I'm testing for him on the race circuit. I rode it the last couple of days at Sea Otter and it's going to see a lot of action this year.
Pedal: How about those Rocket 7 shoes? Those orange kicks are pretty flash…
Kabush: Rocket 7 is another one of the really cool companies that I am working with this year. It doesn't get better than super light, full-custom shoes with my name on them. They 're from outside of Seattle and it's been great to work with. They're incredibly light and feel great on your feet.
Pedal: How are you feeling with the race to the Games? You must be confident.
Kabush: It's going to be a very interesting couple of months for people watching the Olympic spots battle – both in Canada and in the US. I think it's a lot more wide-open than people originally thought, and the riders are going to have to really prove that they deserve to be representing their country in Athens.
